DENVER, CO (June 23, 2010) - Jay Weise, creative director and co-founder of Weise Communications was recently elected to the New Denver Ad Club board of directors. Weise Communications is an integrated marketing, advertising and public relations agency in Denver.

As a board member, Weise will provide strategic direction and consultation to the New Denver Ad Club. The New Denver Ad Club is the newest, oldest advertising association in the country. "The New Denver Ad Club is a valuable organization for the Denver community at large, helping to promote our city as a great American creative center," said Weise. "It's important for me to exchange with others in the industry in order to share my knowledge as well as learn from others."

Weise Communications Successfully Rebrands Client

St. Mary Land & Exploration Company now SM Energy

DENVER, CO (June 8, 2010)Weise Communications, an integrated marketing, advertising and public relations agency in Denver, successfully completed a rebranding project for SM Energy Company, formerly known as St. Mary Land & Exploration Company (NYSE: SM).

SM Energy Company is an independent energy company headquartered in Denver, Colo., focused on the exploration, exploitation, development, acquisition and production of natural gas and crude oil in the United States. The management of SM Energy came to Weise Communications to rebrand the company to reflect the changes in the company since its founding in 1908. Originally created to manage and develop 25,000 acres of land in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana, the company vastly expanded both geographically and in its services and wanted to reflect these changes.

Weise Communications worked with the company’s management to develop a new name, logo and branding that honored the past, yet characterized the company in the present. The new name, SM Energy, is instantly identifiable with the company’s ticker symbol on the New York Stock Exchange. The new logo visually presents the oil and natural gas assets that drive the company’s business.

“The name and logo change are a natural part of the transformation that the company has undergone,” said Tony Best, President and Chief Executive Officer. “It does not mean that we are changing the way we conduct business; our mission and values remain unchanged. The new name and logo are an expression of the company that we have become.”

The rebranding project received unanimous shareholder approval and was launched in May. For more information about this project, please contact Tracy Weise, president, at (303) 996-9940, ext. 102 or tracy@weiseideas.com.

Weise Communications, is pleased to announce the launch of its communications industry–related blog, The Side Note

The Side Note covers the marketing, advertising and PR industries from an insider’s perspective. Whether readers offer these services themselves or use them, The Side Note provides information and insight on the latest the communications field has to offer.

“We face an exciting challenge making our blog stand out from the many others in the Denver market,” said Travis Parker, copywriter for Weise Communications and the lead contributor for The Side Note. “We hosted a two-week ‘soft-live’ and got great results, including hundreds of hits and getting picked up by various news sites and other blogs.”

The soft live plan consisted of three main parts:

First, other blogs were read and time was spent time leaving comments on those blogs in order to learn how to interact in this virtual world.

Next, a select group of people was invited to participate in a 10-day “soft live.” This created a controlled platform and allowed for the gathering of feedback so that modifications could be made before going full live.

Finally, the blog was launched to the general public and inaugurated with a press releases, tie-ins to key social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and with a video on blogging.
